King Maha Vajiralongkorn is the king of Thailand since 2016. He is the only son of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. After his father death, he accepted the throne on the night of 1 December 2016.

On 3 January 1977, Vajiralongkorn married Princess Soamsawali Kitiyakara. They had one daughter. Though princess Soamsawali refused divorce for many years, in 1993 the king was finally able to divorce her in the family court. Later, in 1994 he married Yuvadhida Polpraserth who was an aspiring actress. They had five children. Before their marriage, they had a son born in 1979. Vajiralongkorn married for a third time on 10 February 2001, to Srirasmi Suwadee a commoner of modest background who had been in his service since 1992. The marriage was not revealed to the public until early 2005. She gave birth to a son, Dipangkorn Rasmijoti in 2005 who was elevated to the rank of princess.

The king is now 66 years old. In an announcement on Wednesday in the Royal Gazette said that Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya is the legal wife of the king and she is now the present queen. Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya who was a former flight attendant for Thai Airways International met on a flight.

In August 2014 Suthida was appointed as the commander of Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn’s household guard. Later, in 2016 she was appointed Commander of the Special Operations Unit of the King’s Guard and promoted to the rank of general. On 1 June 2017, she was appointed as acting commander of Royal Thai Aide-de-Camp Department following the reorganization of the Royal Security Command.

Their marriage registration took place at the Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall in Bangkok. Their marriage was announced just three days before the coronation. Thai television broadcasted their marriage rituals on Wednesday evening. Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn officially took on his father’s crown on Saturday through a three-day ritual.
