Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. It has been decided to impose curfew in New York and Chicago. The administrations of various provinces of the country also feel that the police department needs to be reformed.
The administration relaxed curfews in New York and Chicago on Sunday, assuring the public that the police department would be reformed. Earlier on Saturday, curfews were relaxed in Washington, Atlanta and Minneapolis.
George Floyd was killed by police in Minneapolis,USA. Since then, there has been a storm of protests across the country. Initially, the protests were violent, but gradually they became peaceful. Ordinary people protested against racism in almost every city of the country on Saturday and Sunday. The slogan is ‘Black Life Matters‘. In the last few days, various issues of torture on blacks have come up anew.
Not only in America, but also in different countries of Europe. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. Allegedly, racist mentality is still prevalent in the police department. Blacks have been accused of police brutality more than once before. As a result, from the very beginning of the movement, the protesters were demanding the reform of the police department.
Initially, the protesters were involved in clashes in various provinces, including New York, Washington DC, and Minneapolis. Police charged the baton and fired tear gas shells. As a result, the protests have intensified. The administration has tried to stop the protesters by imposing curfew in different places. But the results have been the opposite.
One by one, different provinces began to relax curfews from Saturday. It was picked up on Sunday in New York, the epicenter of the movement. The people were informed that there were no more obstacles to the peaceful movement. At the same time, there is a demand for reform in the police department at the administrative level as well. In some places, it is being said that the police department should be completely dismantled and rebuilt. Not only that, there is a demand to reduce the huge amount of money spent by each state for the police. Many have also spoken out about police education.
Democrat politician Alexandria Cortez says New York alone costs about six billion US dollars behind the police department. Quickly this needs to shrink spending there. Nine of the 13 members of the City Council in Minneapolis have demanded that the cost of the police department be reduced quickly and that the police department be dismantled and rebuilt if necessary.
All these demands are not new in America. Allegations of racism, racism and religious discrimination against the police have been going on for a long time. For a long time, various human rights organizations in the country have been vocal about it. But the recent death of George Floyd has added fuel to the fire. After almost a decade, curfews have been imposed in various parts of the United States. And for the first time, protesters’ demands for reforms in the police department have sparked protests in the administration.
